History

The orignial concepts for the Star Spawn as a race of beings started as a personal fantasy with the story idea developing over a period of several years. In the spring of 1990, while toying around with writing a Dungeons & Dragons story, I decided I wanted to tell the story of my fantasy. As such, the first story was completed between May and July, 1990.

During the next several months, one of our local editors started reading it, for want of something better to do than to wait for real "work." I also started back through the story and decided a rewrite was in order. The result was the second iteration of the story, which was given to several associates to read and provide feedback.

Questions which arose during that reading led me to believe that I had a larger story to be told and so I started putting story ideas together, creating the Star Spawn Saga. While I recognized the lead role that Jules Ann Stollack would play, I didn't fully understand or realize that the saga would tell the story of the creation of the Goddess, and that Julie would truly become "Eve, the mother of all living" in a very real and literal sense.

Thus, the Star Spawn Saga became the coming-of-age story of The Goddess.

After attempting to market the stories through an agent, I attended a seminar featuring a successful mystery writer. Her advice led me to condense the first two stories and split the third into two novels. All the rest of the saga novels were then written to a maximum of 120,000 words with the exception of Visit to A Small Planet.
